One Story. Two Ways to Live It

Istoria, a member of Design Hotels on Santorini, offers guests a choice between two distinct locations united by one vision. Situated on the caldera cliffs of Firostefani and the black volcanic shores of Perivolos Beach, οne finds Istoria, a 21-suite and villa retreat, inviting you to write your own story as you explore Greece’s most dramatic island.

Both locations share the same intimate design sensibility and contemporary Cycladic architecture, while embracing all the needs of modern and sophisticated travellers, for an experience that is wholly and authentically Greek. Ιστορία means ‘story’ in Greek- and at Istoria, every stay is a chapter you author yourself.

Ιstoria Beach

On Santorini's tranquil southeastern coast, Istoria's beachfront suites in Perivolos open directly onto an endless stretch of shimmering volcanic black sand. Here, the island reveals its profound character: skin-tingling sunshine, grounding volcanic earth, and the midnight blue Aegean at your doorstep. 12 earthy, eclectic suites feature arched doorways, most with hot tubs and pools. Here, you'll find Mr. E Restaurant, serving modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, and Elios Spa, with treatments rooted in the island's healing energy. This is Istoria Beach at its most tangible and relaxed, a place to ground yourself in the island's natural rhythms.

Ιstoria Cliffs

In the peaceful village of Firostefani, 12km from Istoria Beach, 9 elegant cliff suites are carved into the caldera's ancient stone, suspended between sky and sea. From these cave-house sanctuaries, the view opens onto the submerged volcano and the infinite blues of the Aegean, bathed in Santorini's legendary light. This is the island at its most contemplative, a place of perspective and stillness, where geological layers whisper stories millions of years old. Guests enjoy full access to all amenities at the seaside location, just a short drive away.

Our Story

Istoria's story begins with Christina, a cosmopolitan wanderer who arrived in Santorini in the early 1970s and fell in love with both the caldera cliffs and the island's wild southern shores. Her vision, to create a home that honoured Santorini's dual character, lives on in Istoria's two locations, designed to blend Cycladic tradition with contemporary ease. Whether you seek the grounding energy of black sand or the elevated perspective of caldera heights, Istoria offers one truth: the freedom to create your own story in one of the world's most extraordinary places.
