SCROLL DOWN
One Story. Two Ways to Live It

Unfolding from the black sand shores of Perivolos to the rugged cliffs of Firostefani, one finds Istoria, a 21-suite and villa retreat. More than a hotel, it is a way to create your own paradise, bringing together sea and sky, grounding and elevation, beach and caldera.

Both locations share the same intimate design sensibility and contemporary Cycladic architecture, while embracing all the needs of modern and sophisticated travellers, for an experience that is wholly and authentically Greek. Istoria means ‘story’ in Greek, offering guests a choice between two distinct locations united by one vision. Here, every stay is a chapter you author yourself.

Ιstoria Beach

On the tranquil southeastern coast of Santorini, 12 suites in Perivolos open directly onto an endless stretch of shimmering volcanic black sand. The island reveals its profound character: skin-tingling sunshine, grounding volcanic earth, and the midnight blue Aegean at your doorstep. Earthy, eclectic suites feature arched doorways, most with hot tubs and pools. Here, you'll find Mr. E Restaurant, serving modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, and Elios Spa, with treatments rooted in the island's healing energy. A place to slow down, reconnect, and settle into the rhythm of the sea.

Ιstoria Cliff

In the peaceful village of Firostefani, 13 km from Istoria Beach, 9 elegant cliff suites are carved into the caldera's ancient stone, suspended between sky and sea. From these cave-house sanctuaries, the view opens onto the submerged volcano and the infinite blues of the Aegean, bathed in Santorini's legendary light. This is the island at its most elemental, a place of perspective and stillness, where geological layers whisper stories millions of years old. Guests enjoy full access to all amenities at the seaside location, just a short drive away.

Our Story

Istoria's story begins with Christina Tassou, a cosmopolitan wanderer whose adventurous spirit brought her to Santorini in the early 1970s. Captivated by the striking contrasts of Santorini, she found herself drawn to two very different landscapes from the dramatic caldera of Firostefani to the black-sand shores of Perivolos.

She first made her home among the cave houses overlooking the volcano, before discovering a different kind of freedom on the island's southern coast. There, where the Aegean meets volcanic sand, she imagined a place where life could unfold at a gentler pace and where her beloved horses could roam freely by the sea. Between these two worlds, Christina found the essence of Santorini. One elevated and contemplative, the other grounded and elemental. Together, they shaped her enduring love for the island.

Today, Christina's love affair with Santorini has been transformed into a dual hotel property concept. Istoria is the lovechild of co-owners Kalia Konstantinidou and Antonis Eliopoulos, who share deep ties to the island. Istoria is an all-embracing home with heart and an inimitable island heritage at its core. A reflection of Santorini's timelessness and the evolution of a lifelong romance with its contrasts: black sand and white houses, navy seas and pale blue skies.
